Bumper Boro production in Chuadanga, farmers eying profit

The Boro paddy harvesting and threshing is about to complete in four upazilas of Chuadanga district this season. Farmers have harvested 1,95,274.8 metric tons of Boro paddy from 30,996 hectares of land up to date but rest 3,401 hectares land of  paddy with production 21,426.3 metric tons will be completed to harvest by May 15 this year. 

It is learnt from Agriculture Extension Department, farmers in the upazilas have harvested 1,95,274.8 metric tonnes of Boro paddy from 30,996 hectares of land up to date. 

The sources added, of the total, 38,669.4 metric tons of Boro paddy has been harvested and threshed from 6,138 hectares of land in Sadar Upazila, 71,271.9 metric tons from 11,313 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila, 45,076.5 metric tons from 7,155 hectares of land in Damurhuda upazila and 40,257 metric tons from 6,390 hectares of land in Jibannagar upazila. 

On the other hand, 3,401 hectares land of the paddy with production 21,426.3 metric tons will be completed to harvest by May 15 this year. Of the total, 682 hectares of land with production 4,296.6 metric tons will be completed to harvest in sadar upazila, 1,214 hectares of land with production 7,648.2 metric tons in Alamdanga upazila, 795 hectares of land with production 5,008.5 in Damurhuda upazila and 710 hectares of land with production 4,473 metric tonnes in Jibannagar upazila. 

It may be mentioned here, Boro paddy has been cultivated on 34,397 hectares of land with production 2,16,701.1 metric tons in the upazilas of the district this season. Of the total, upazila wise paddy production and cultivation breaks up  are-42,966 metric tons of paddy from 6,820 hectares of land in Sadar Upazila, 78,920.1 metric tons from 12,527 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila, 50,085 metric tons from 7,950 hectares of land in Damurhuda upazila and 44,730 metric tons from 7,100 hectares of land in Jibannagar upazila. 

Farmers planted Boro paddy in the month of December-January. Now the farmers are harvesting this paddy from April to May at their fields with festive mood due to huge production, Bayazid Joarder of village Khezura in Sadar Upazila said. 

Salauddin of village Zadupur in Jibannagar Upazila of the district said, his father’s boro paddy has ripened in the field as he has started to harvest with kachi there for help his father. 

Bevash Chandra Saha, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department said, the use of technology for harvesting paddy has increased. 

At least 46 harvester and reaper machines are being used day and night to harvest paddy. That's why the labor crisis could not be a headache for the farmers. The harvester machine cut the paddy and threshed it immediately and cleaned the straw completely. This has saved the farmers financially as well as harvesting paddy in less time. As a result, farmers are getting digital advantage in this regards.
