Farmers of Sarankhola Upazila are happy like those from other parts of the country, due to bumper yield of Aman Paddy. Most of the villages of the Upazila has taken a yellowish look with the ripe Aman paddy. Farmers are delighted for the better price.
Agriculture Department provided their full support with fertilizer, irrigation management and new varieties of paddy seeds and modern technology.
Md Abul Hasan, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer informed that Aman paddy was cultivated on around 70,000 bighs of land in the Upazila. The varieties are- brri- 39, 49, 52, 7173, 75 ,87, BR 11,22, 23 local Dudhkolom, Sadamota and lalmota. To inspire the farmers, the Department had supplied incentives and arranged 30 exhibitions.
Nazrul Islam Mollah, a farmer of Dakkhin Akdamtola village said that he has cultivated Aman paddy on 80 bigha. The yield is better than that of previous two or three years. He got 20 maunds of rice from each bigha.
Alahj Azmol Hossain Mukter, chairman of Rayenda UP and president of Upazila Awami League and Zakir Hossain Khan Mohiuddin, Kontakata UP Chairman said, “We are grateful to the Almighty for the better production. The Agriculture Department has played an important role in this regard. The officers had provided all kinds of help including pesticide. The Field Day and govt incentives were the main reason that made the farmers independent.
