Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (Jamaat) and Hijbut Tahrir are allegedly now using their student wings--Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir to create unrest on campus. This clique has now become desperate to see turmoil on the country’s prestigious university campuses, especially at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

They are now doing everything to create unrest in the country centering the universities with a target to defame and then oust the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They are making ill attempts to make the campuses unstable by using their student wings.

Under the banner of general students, they continued their demonstration against the alleged activities of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on the campus where student politics is prohibited. However, on Saturday a group of Buet students, who marked themselves as the ‘people of pro-liberation war’, organised a press conference under the banner of ‘victim students’ at BUET campus where they claimed that they are under pressure and do not feel safe on the campus only because they bear the spirit of Liberation War or support the organisation that supported the Liberation War.

This clique has now become

They also claimed that communal forces like Hijbut Tahrir and Shibir are actively working on the Buet campus and revealed a list of some ‘Shibir activists.’ In this regard, we recall the horrors of the killings and violence at all universities and colleges across the country between 1979 and 1996 committed by the Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir against the general students, who believe in the spirit of Liberation War.

The armed cadres of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir had unleashed a reign of terror by carrying out killing and brutal torture and repression on general students during that time. Many students were killed and injured critically by the activists of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir while heavy gunfire rocked the campuses round the clock during that period.

We have not forgotten the hooliganism and terrorisms carried out by Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir on campuses. They had destroyed academic and other activities of the universities. It had taken about eight years to complete honours and masters for the then students. But all universities in the country are now running their academic activities smoothly.

A congenial atmosphere is now prevailing at all educational institutions especially universities.  Obviously, this is good news for the students, teachers and guardians. Authorities of all the universities are also taking necessary measures to maintain tranquility on campuses.

But BNP-led Alliance and Jamaat are instigating their student wings to carry-out destructive activities on campus in a bid to make an issue. We are concerned that the BNP-Jamaat clique wants to repeat the hooliganism, terrorism, firing and bombing it carried out between 1979 and 1996.

Therefore, the students and teachers must have plans to make campuses fresh and enriched with friendly atmosphere and smooth functioning of academic, research and cultural activities. Simultaneously, they should keep in mind that some elements will continue instigating the students to make any trifle matter an issue and wage movement to create unrest on the university campuses.
