On Monday, at the BTRC office, an agreement was signed with Canada-based international company TKC Telecom regarding the purchase of BTRC's telecom monitoring system.

Engineer Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, Commissioner, Engineering and Operations, BTRC delivered the welcome address. Md Golam Razzak, Director, Engineering and Operations, BTRC and Samir Talhami, CEO, TKC Telecom signed the agreement on behalf of the company.

According to the agreement, the company has to complete the installation of telecom monitoring system within 180 days of signing the agreement. Also present at the signing ceremony were Brigadier General Md Ehsanul Kabir, Director General, Engineering and Operations, BTRC and Samir Talhami, CEO, TKC Telecom. The event was virtually attended by senior officials of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications and BTRC and CEOs of mobile operators.

It may be mentioned that the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the purchase of telecom monitoring system at a cost of Taka 8 crore 75 lakh. According to the presentation given at the event, once the system is implemented, the process of collecting and reporting information from mobile operators will be automated. At the same time it will be possible to observe all the necessary information in real time.

This will ensure regular and reliable access to voice and data traffic, network usage and quality information as well as BTRC's revenue. This will greatly improve the BTRC's policy-making system and make reporting to the government more efficient and faster.

It will be possible to immediately verify the actual condition of the telecommunication network in urban as well as rural areas, islands, haors, coastal areas and remote areas. Through live monitoring of the operators' network, the quality of service of the network can be more accurately verified and the actual status of customer service can be known.

It will be possible to verify the tariffs that the operators are actually implementing and whether these tariff packages have been approved by the BTRC or whether the customers are being unfairly harmed and it will be possible to settle the grievances effectively. If the network is damaged due to a natural disaster, necessary action can be taken by monitoring it. The system will play an effective role in making various policy decisions of the government and in improving the quality of various infrastructural systems and services.
