Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) won the WSIS Winner Award 2021 for introducing biometric system in SIM card registration.
The award was presented at a virtual event organised by the International Telecommunication Union on Tuesday.
The BTRC Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform or CBVMP project has won one of the world's most prestigious awards in the field of information technology, the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Award-2021 in the Action Line CFIGO, a press release said Tuesday.
BTRC participated in the competition for the first time this year. Chairman of the Commission Shyamsunder Sikder after taking charge, gave instructions to take part in this competition.
BTRC Director General (Systems and Services) Brigadier General Md Nasim Parvez briefed the media about the Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform or CBVMP through PowerPoint.
Speaking as the chief guest, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder said, “Today is a day of joy and a day of great achievement. I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to Brigadier General Md. Nasim, Director General of SS Division, other members of the team, mobile operators and everyone involved in this project, including Synesis IT. CBVMP is a world recognized project. This has brought rare honors to Bangladesh. I would like to share the honor of this honor with all the people of Bangladesh and also thank the Hon'ble Prime Minister. BTRC is working on a number of projects, the benefits of which will soon be available to customers.”
Engineer Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Commissioner of Engineering and Operations Department of the Commission, Abu Syed Diljar Hussain, Commissioner of Legal and Licensing Department of BTRC, Director General (Administration) Md. Delwar Hossain, Director General (Spectrum) Brigadier General Md. , Director General (Legal and Licensing) Ashish Kumar Kundu, Director General (Finance, Accounts and Revenue) Engineer Md. Mesbahuzzaman and other senior BTRC officials were present.
