To tap into the vast potential of MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, and Exhibition) tourism, the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) organized its first-ever seminar on the subject at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
The event brought together industry experts, government officials, and stakeholders to discuss how MICE tourism could play a pivotal role in elevating Bangladesh as a premier tourist destination in South Asia.
The seminar, titled ‘MICE Tourism in Bangladesh’ featured notable speakers who highlighted the country’s unique attractions, ranging from the world’s largest single mangrove forest Sundarbans to the pristine sandy beaches of Cox's Bazar. The diverse lifestyle of small ethnic groups, ongoing traditional festivals, archaeological wonders, flavorful local cuisines, and warm hospitality were emphasized as key factors that could entice travelers from across the globe. Mokammel Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism while speaking as the chief guest said that the immense potential MICE tourism holds for the development of Bangladesh’s tourism sector.
He pointed out that tourism is the world’s largest inclusive and labor-intensive industry, providing employment opportunities to millions globally, with more than 5 million people in Bangladesh directly and indirectly involved.
“MICE tourism offers a unique platform to showcase our country domestically and internationally,” said Mokammel Hossain. He emphasized that the industry is not only boosting overall employment but is also creating opportunities in various fields such as event planning, venue management, catering, logistics, connectivity, and technical support. BTB CEO Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber chaired the seminar and presented an insightful thoughts.
