In the past year, mobile courts conducted 83 drives across various factories and establishments in Faridpur, collecting Tk 559,000 in fines for substandard products. These actions were carried out as part of ongoing efforts to ensure product quality, informed Md. Kamal Hossain, Deputy Director and Head of the Faridpur office of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
As part of the operations, 121 product samples were collected. Following laboratory testing of 160 food items and 8 non-organic products, further actions were taken where necessary.
These updates were shared at a discussion meeting held on Tuesday to mark World Standards Day, observed under the theme “Shared Vision for a Better World – Standards for Sustainable Development.” The event was jointly organised by the district administration and BSTI’s Faridpur office.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Kamrul Hasan Mollah attended the event as chief guest. He issued a stern warning that no leniency would be shown during inspections and mobile court operations. Emphasising the safety of baby food, he stated, “If any factory operates without BSTI certification, it will be sealed. These products can harm children and create difficulties for both businesses and consumers.”
The DC also directed officials to monitor fuel quality and ensure proper measurements at petrol stations.
Additional District Magistrate Mintu Biswas chaired the meeting. Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police Raihan Gafur, Civil Surgeon Mahamudul Hasan, and BSTI-authorised business leaders from Faridpur and Rajbari were present and spoke at the event.
