After a considerable period of anticipation, the government has finally announced the formation of an ad-hoc committee for the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation. The official notification regarding the new body was issued by the National Sports Council (NSC) on Wednesday.
Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, the Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives, will lead the newly constituted 19-member committee. Veteran sports organiser and renowned actress Aleya Ferdousi has been appointed general secretary.
The committee's composition includes a diverse group of individuals: Abdur Rahman, Sarwar Hossain, Imran Chowdhury, Taimur Farooq Munna, Yusuf Mohsin, Sirajul Islam Babu, Shahed Ahmed, Miti Dewan, Abdullah Salehin Ayon, and Daiyan Nafis. Additionally, representatives from the Army, Navy, and the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) have been included, ensuring a broad spectrum of expertise and institutional involvement.
This appointment marks a significant step in the restructuring of sports governance in Bangladesh. Following the change in government on August 5th of last year, a five-member search committee was established with the mandate to dissolve existing sports federations and associations and form new ad-hoc bodies. The shooting federation is among the last of the 52 sports federations and associations to receive an ad-hoc committee, indicating the extensive process undertaken. Notably, only the cricket and football federations have been exempted from this ad-hoc committee formation process, while the Women's Sports Association is still awaiting its new body.
