Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU) celebrated World Oceans Day 2024 with great enthusiasm. This year’s theme was “Awaken New Depth: Catalysing Action for Our Ocean and Climate.” A seminar was held at the university auditorium to mark the day.
Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, the Vice-Chancellor of BSMRMU, was the Chief Guest. Commodore Mohammad Minarul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Ocean Sciences, gave the welcome speech. The keynote speech was presented by Prof. Dr. Mizan R. Khan from Independent University of Bangladesh. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazir Hossain, Head of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Marine Biotechnology at BSMRMU, also delivered a
valuable speech.
Two students from BSMRMU, Nandita Pal from the Department of Oceanography and Hydrography and Itmam Haider from the Department of Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering, presented scientific papers at the seminar.
In addition to the seminar, the university organized a quiz and an art competition to celebrate the day.
The Vice-Chancellor, Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, handed out
prizes to the winners of these competitions.
The event saw active participation from the university's Treasurer, Registrar, Academic Advisor, Deans, Heads of Departments, teachers, officers, and students. The celebration highlighted the importance of oceans and aimed to inspire action for their protection and conservation.
World Oceans Day at BSMRMU was a great success, promoting awareness and encouraging efforts to protect our oceans and climate.
