BSMMU Treasurer Dr Atiqur shows dynamism in treatment, management system

Being appointed as the treasurer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Professor Dr. Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, who is also a respiratory medicine specialist, has made a significant progress in the respiratory treatment system of the hospital.

He also has done many things for the welfare of the patients of the BSMMU and its officials and employees as well.

Professor Atiqur Rahman was appointed as the treasurer of the BSMMU for the first time in September, 2018 for three years. For his extra-ordinary performance, the government reappointed him in 2021 to the same post for the second time for three more years.

Talking to Bangladesh Post, Professor Atiqur Rahman expressed his desire of doing many more thins for the development and betterment of the BSMMU, its treatment system, patients and the officials and employees as well.

Professor Atiqur Rahman said, “Earlier the poor and insolvent patients would get only Tk 2,000 to 3,000 assistance from the welfare fund of the BSMMU, but after I was appointed as the treasurer, the amount has been raised. Now each of the poor patients is getting up to Tk 10,000."

Apart from the treasurer of the BSMMU, being a respiratory specialist, Dr, Atiqur Rahman has introduced the ‘Respiratory Emergency’ service at the ‘Cabin Block’ of the ‘Respiratory Medicine Department’ on the 1st floor of the BSMMU hospital.

“After the launching of the ‘Respiratory Emergency’ unit, now respiratory patients are being able to get treatment service on emergency”, he said.

He also introduced a ‘Sleep Study Test System’ at the hospital.

“The ‘Sleep Study Test System’ helps patients to get better treatment service through proper diagnosis”, he said.

Since the COVID-19 treatment system is related to the respiratory medicine department, Dr Atiqur Rahman, who is a respiratory medicine specialist, has introduced various training programme on COVID treatment.

For the purpose of the welfare of the officials and employees of the BSMMU, the amount of money received from the Prime Minister’s fund, which is deposited to the bank as FDRs, has been increased.

“Not only that all the interest rate of the FDR’s has been increased and it has been made tax free”, said Dr Atiqur Rahman.

Besides, interest rate of the money in the provident fund of the BSMMU officials and employees has been increased in consultation with the chairman of the National Board of Revenue.

Dr Atiqur Rahman also introduced an automated system through which all the officials and employees of the BSMMU are now paid their salaries and allowances.

A housing skim has been introduced for the BSMMU officials and employees.
