Two Bangladeshi nationals — a woman and a young man — who had been residing illegally in India were handed over to Bangladesh authorities concerned by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) through a formal flag meeting held on Monday.
The meeting took place between officials of India’s Jorpara BSF Camp in Nadia district and Bangladesh’s Kushumpur Camp of BGB Battalion-58 in Moheshpur upazila, Jhenaidah. Assistant Director of BGB-58, Munshi Imdadur Rahman, confirmed the handover and said that the returnees were later transferred to Maheshpur Police Station for further legal processing.
Meanwhile, BGB forces thwarted an attempted illegal border crossing on Sunday night. Acting on a tip-off, members of Kushumpur BGB Camp detained three men near the Chapatla border area while they were trying to enter India through unauthorised routes.
The detainees were identified as Iman Das (18) of Sandwip, Chattogram; Subrata Kumar (42) of Nesarabad, Pirojpur; and Shaha Alam (42) of Shibchar, Madaripur. All three were apprehended on a rural road in Chapatla village and are currently under custody pending legal action.
