Four Bangladeshi nationals detained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while attempting to illegally cross the Nagorbhita border in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi Upazila have been returned to Bangladesh.
The return was facilitated through a flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF on Tuesday.
The individuals handed over are Nazrul Islam (50) and his three children—Saddam Hossain, Mohammad Mister, and Alpha—residents of Kashua Badambari village under Bara Palashbari Union in Thakurgaon.
Local sources reported that Nazrul Islam was trying to enter India with his children in search of work. Around 1:30 AM on Tuesday, they crossed the border near pillar 373/1-S at the Nagorbhita point. They were apprehended by a BSF patrol unit from the Bamanbari Camp. BSF later informed the Thakurgaon 50 BGB Battalion.
Mohammad Abu Saleh, a local Union Parishad member, confirmed that the BGB brought them back following the flag meeting.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzir Ahmed, commander of the Thakurgaon-50 BGB Battalion, stated, “BSF handed over the four Bangladeshi nationals during the flag meeting. All are confirmed citizens of Bangladesh.”
