The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly pushed eight individuals—including women, men, and children—into Bangladesh through the Khashmahal border in Kathuli Union of Gangni upazila, Meherpur. The incident took place early Thursday morning when the barbed-wire gate at the border was opened and the individuals were forced across into Bangladeshi territory.
The people who crossed the border have been identified as Titu Sheikh (45), son of Dhonu Mia from Mymensingh, Ashraful Islam (55), son of Ejaz Molla, also from Mymensingh, Aminul Islam (28), son of Abdul Barek from Daulatpur in Khulna, Sabejan Khatun (40), daughter of Jabbar Sheikh from Narail, Faima Khatun (27), daughter of Mozammel Hossain from Jamalpur, Nasima Akter (36) from the same area, and two children Rahim Mia (5) and Rohan Sheikh (3).
According to Subedar Abul Bashar, commander of the Khashmahal BGB camp, all eight individuals claim to be Bangladeshi nationals. However, none of them possess any form of national identification, making it difficult to verify their citizenship.
They are currently being handed over to Gangni Police for further investigation.
