Indian Border Security Force (BSF) reportedly pushed 19 individuals into Bangladesh through the Sylhet border in the early hours of Tuesday (June 25), according to local authorities.
The group, comprising six men, six women, and seven children, was pushed into Bangladeshi territory through the Jaintapur upazila border around 5:00am, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Nazmul Haque, commandant of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-48 in Sylhet.
Acting on a tip-off, BGB personnel rushed to the location and detained the group for illegal entry.
They were later handed over to Jaintapur Police Station, the BGB official confirmed.
Despite repeated objections and diplomatic protests by Bangladesh, such cross-border push-ins by BSF continue along various stretches of the international boundary.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identities or nationalities of those pushed across the border, and it remains unclear under what circumstances they were sent back.
