The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) foiled an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push three people—one man and two women—into Bangladesh through the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga.
The attempted push-in took place at around 3:00am on Sunday in the Madhabkhali border area of Jibannagar upazila.
Assistant Director of BGB’s Maheshpur-58 Battalion Munsi Imdadur Rahman confirmed the matter to media workers in a press release at 10:00am on Sunday.
According to the press release, BSF personnel from the Materi Camp of 32 BSF Battalion attempted to push the three people into Bangladesh through a gate located near Border Pillar 70/2-S in the Madhabkhali border area at around 3:00am.
The three people were spotted by a patrol team of Madhabkhali Border Outpost (BOP) before they could enter Bangladesh. The BGB patrol team prevented them from crossing into Bangladesh from the zero line, following which they remained 40 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line.
Due to the firm stance of the BGB, the three people returned towards the barbed-wire fence on the Indian side at 5:20am. Later, personnel from the Materi Camp of 32 BSF Battalion opened the 68/5-S border gate at 7:55am and took them back into Indian territory.
Maheshpur-58 Battalion said the incident had already been brought to the attention of 32 BSF Battalion.
The press release also said that the BGB remains on the highest alert and is playing a responsible role in maintaining border security, preventing push-ins and illegal entry, and ensuring peace and order in the border area.
