Fifteen Bangladeshi nationals who were detained by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) while allegedly attempting to enter the country illegally have been handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through the Taluigachha border in Satkhira.
They were transferred on Wednesday at around 6pm following a flag meeting between India’s Amudia Company Commander Bikash Kumar and Bangladesh’s Taluigachha BGB Commander, Naib Subedar Abul Kashem.
The group had reportedly been apprehended by the BSF on the night of 30 September while crossing the Hakimpur checkpoint without proper documents.
Those detained are: Fazila Khatun (47) and her son Milon Gazi (19), wife and son of Rezaul Gazi from Koyra in Khulna; Sabuj Morol (12), his wife Reshma Khatun (22), and daughter Razia Khatun (7) from Joykhali in Dumuria; Jafarul Islam (38), his wife Rahima Khatun (28), son Jamshed Ali (12), and daughter Jim Sultana (3); Elem Sardar (49), his wife Aklima (44), and daughter Asiya Khatun (11); and Ahsan Habib Khokon (42), his wife Rowshan Ara Begum (38), and their son Sohan Gazi (5).
The BGB has handed all detainees to Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
According to initial information, they had been attempting to cross into India in search of work or to visit relatives.
Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, Saminul Haque, said that legal procedures would be followed before the individuals are released to their families.
