Dhaka Theatre staged their much-acclaimed play ‘Putra’ yesterday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
Directed by Shimul Yousuf, ‘Putra’ is one of the plays that renowned playwright Selim Al Deen finished just before his death in 2008. It is the 47th production of the troupe. The play revolves around bewailing and lamentation of a couple for the death of their deceased son Manik.
The play shows in a cold winter night, the couple named Siraj Maittal and Abchha is sitting on their yard in front of a bonfire.
Dried roots of a mango tree burning into the bonfire reminds them of their son, who committed suicide hanging himself up from that very mango tree.
The cast of the play includes Esha Yousuf, Milu Chowdhury, Asaduzzaman Aman, Rafiqul Islam and others.
