Bruzon eyes securing group top spot of AFC Cup

Bashundhara Kings will begin their AFC Cup Group Stage campaign with taking on Maziya Sports and Recreation Club tomorrow at the Salt lake Stadium, Kolkata, India  

Kings head coach Oscar Bruzon, who put his own band of authority on his squad, since the domestic season kicks off, eyeing to triumph the title of the Premier League for third times in a row and to compete in the AFC Cup Group Stage in a good way.  

An eventful summer has been going for Bashundhara Kings, when there are six league matches left to finish the Bangladesh Premier League, today they are busy with their last practice sessions in Kolkata for tomorrow’s match.

Apart from Maziya Sports and Recreation Club of Maldives, Bashundhara will have ATK Mohun Bagan and Gokulam Kerala of India in their group.

However, it was nothing more than what the Reds, who had only just secured a spot in the AFC Cup by finishing on top of the Premier League,they deserved with dominating the contests throughout and only ever looked like set their target in the AFC Cup to be on top of the Group D.

Oscar, before his departure for Kolkata on May 13 along with the contingent had an interview with the Bangladesh Post.

Oscar, who is now to face huge challenges in both the domestic and international field, to defend the Premier League title and to make the dream true to move forward in AFC

Replying to query, which is more important to him right now, Oscar said, “On one side, the BPL is the most important in domestic club competition here in Bangladesh. We face every BPL game as a final as it is the only way to keep intact our chances to retain the title. On the other hands, AFC Cup is a prestigious Continental competition where competition where the best Clubs from the South Continent contest for one only slot to play the final continental stages. The opponents this year are specially, tough and in form but so do we. Probably every game will be decided by small details, determination, conviction, deal with the competitive pressure and a good recovery in between games will have special importance on this edition.”

“Important in football is estability, consistency, playing always with desire and as unit rather than priorizing one competition over the other.”

About his target with the AFC Cup - “We play all competitions and every game with the aim to deliver good performances and win, thats is our real goal.

About his awareness with the opponents, Oscar said, “Yes obviously we have deeply analised the recent performances of our rivals and as we always do, we will set our game plan accordingly.

All Clubs are currently competing well on their respective leagues so only game by game we will get to know the real chances of everyone.”

Do you think your preparation is good enough?, Oscar said, “Our team combination is well defined and settle from our first year. And we have successfully progressed from there as nowadays all of our players know and rely on each other. 

We are so far this season the team with the most number of clean sheets, with less goals conceded and with the most goals scored which is a good indication of our team quality and solvency.”

About the players overall fitness, Oscar informed. “Topu and Nuha (Nuha Marong Krubally) having a minor muscle injury.”
