At present approximately 95 percent of the 4.5-kilometer from Tongi Bridge to College Gate via Station Road of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project has been completed, and can be opened for traffic ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister ObaidulQuader while visiting the elevated portion of the BRT project, extending from Uttara House Building to Tongi College Gate said this on Saturday.
He expressed hope that the remaining construction and the ongoing monsoon season, coupled with the slow movement of sacrificial animal-laden vehicles, would not cause further inconvenience. To mitigate these concerns, the ministry has devised a plan to alleviate the anticipated difficulties.
Highlighting the project’s timeline, the minister stated that the BRT project is scheduled for completion between September and October of this year. Despite initial debates regarding its implementation, the project was extended. Emphasizing the importance of order and safety on the roads, the minister acknowledged the challenges posed by such initiatives.
Quader also praised the government’s efforts, citing the successful completion of the Padma Bridge and the initiation of numerous other schemes. He assured that the elevated section up to Tejgaon and the metro rail work up to Motijheel would be completed before the next national elections.
Moreover, plans are underway to inaugurate a hundred more bridges, following the rare precedent set by the Prime Minister, who inaugurated a hundred bridges in the past.
To alleviate road congestion ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, discussions have been held with garment factory owners. Additionally, the section from Jasimuddin in the capital to the airport area is expected to be opened before Eid.
Secretary of Road and Transport Bridges Ministry AminullahNoori, Secretary of Bridges Department Manjur Hossain, Project Director of BRT Md. EshakabdMahirul Islam, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner MahbubAlam, among others, were present.
