BRT girder collapses, 6 workers injured

One side of an under-construction girder of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) collapsed in the capital’s Abdullahpur on Sunday. 

Six people, including three Chinese workers, were injured in the incident. All the injured were admitted to Ever Care Hospital in the capital. Condition of one of the six injured, who is a Chinese national, is critical.

Visiting the spot, it was found that PRT shape was constructing on the 22nd pillar which holds a span on it. However, when the casting is over, it collapses at night. Meanwhile, construction workers were trying to remove the collapsed pillar.

Workers of the project said that after completing the PRT shape construction, they left at midnight. Till then everything was in good condition, but later the pillar collapsed. The workers were unable to explain the reason behind the collapse.

Shafiqul Islam, Managing Director of BRT Company Limited, said, “We will form a committee to investigate the matter. Based on their report, we can say the reason behind the pillar’s collapse.”

He further said that a total of six workers were injured in the incident. Among them, three are Chinese nationals and three are Bangladeshis.
