Marking the 78th death anniversary (August 7) of Rabindranath Tagore, a two-day music festival titled ‘Somukhe Shanti Parabar’, organised by Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha (BRSSS), ended on Saturday at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library in Shahbag of the capital.
Cultural personality Kamal Lohani inaugurated the programme on Friday which began with a chorus titled ‘Aguner Porosh Moni’ by the artistes of BRSSS. Presided over by BRSSS president Tapan Mahmud, vice-president of BRSSS Mokbul Hossain delivered welcome speech at the event.
Later, the organisation honoured noted musician Azad Rahman with the special award ‘Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha Smarak Sommanona’. Kamal Lohani handed over the crest to Rahman on the opening day. In the solo rendition segment, singers Salma Akbar, Deepa Chowdhury, Rabita Sabah, Sima Sarkar, Mita Dey, Akhi Halder, Meera Mandal, Suma Ray, Sajed Akbar, Golam Haider, Shafiqur Rahman, Avik Dey and Abdur Rashid, among others, rendered Tagore songs, including ‘Amar Nishitho Raater Badol Dhara’, ‘Majhe Majhe Tobo Dekha Pai’, ‘Nayan Tumare Payna Dekhite’, ‘Amar Praner Pore’, ‘Kotobar Bhebechhinu’, ‘Nibir Ghana Adhare’, ‘Din Guli Mor Sonar Khanchay’ and others.
On the closing day of the event, the artistes of BRSSS and invited artistes presented group and solo performances. Among them, singer Tapan Mahmud, Bula Mahmud, Pijush Barua, Mahadev Ghosh, Tanjima Toma, Anindita Ray, Lily Islam, Konok Khan and Nirjhar Chowdhury, among others, rendered solo songs at the event.
