Small and big bridges have been constructed on regional roads in some areas of Kaliakair Upazila of Gazipur. So that the village can be easily traveled to all places in the Upazila. Bridges are generally constructed as road junctions in Beel, canal and swamp areas. But these bridges are not useful for human service over the years. The wheels of no vehicles were on the bridges as there is no connecting roads.
It can be seen that there are rivers, canals and drains on the regional roads of some villages including Darbaria of Atabah Union of Kaliakoi, Sadullapur of Dhaljora Union, Chhota Kanchanpur of Sutrapur Union, Baj-Hijltali of Srifaltali area and bridges are constructed as road junctions. Among them, a beautiful bridge was built on the Jalshuka road from Darbaria river. Thousands of people travel through that road. Even if there is any kind of road, no vehicle moves on that road without ground on both sides of the bridge. The road is turning into a forest. A few villagers have to suffer due to this. Even though there are roads and bridges, they have to move on foot.
The same is the case with the bridge across the Sadullapur river in Dhaljora union. There are big potholes on both sides of the bridge making it dangerous to travel. The bridge is now wobbly. The handles on both sides of the bridge are broken. A major accident can happen at any time. Many have already suffered from the pain after the bridge.
Thousands of residents of 5 villages and pedestrians travel through this bridge on the road from Baliadi to Sadullapur. The road from Hijaltali to Chhota Kanchanpur is suffering the most. Thousands of people from small Kanchanpur, Hijlatli, Sutrapur, Ghazaria, North Ghazaria and other villages travel through that road. A beautiful bridge of 30 feet length was constructed in 2018-2019 under Directorate of Disaster Management in Ekron. Now this bridge is 3/4 years old, but the wheels of the car have not passed over it. Because the condition of the road is impassable. Similarly, no vehicle can climb the bridge due to the big holes on both sides of the bridge. The bridge is located a few feet above the road. Due to which the road and the bridge are being used only as an access road. Due to this the road has become narrow day by day. Weeds have taken over the road. No vehicles can ply on the road.
As the area is dependent on agriculture, agricultural products are produced here. Due to poor communication system, these agricultural products cannot go to the city market. Many vegetables are wasted, they have to be fed to cattle. Farmers are affected by this.
Due to poor connectivity, students have to walk to school. Prevents proper treatment of expectant mothers. As there is no hospital nearby, one has to walk several kilometers to the town for treatment. Besides, the condition of several other bridges in this upazila is very bad. Broken and shaken. The same is true of the bridge in the Baj-Hijlatli area of Sriphaltali Union. The public is also suffering. It is only the need of the hour to make both sides of these bridges suitable for vehicular traffic.
Salam, a farmer from Darbaria area, Habu Da, a businessman from Sadullapur area, Himel, a youth from Hijlatli area, said that there are roads and bridges, but there are holes on both sides of the bridge due to lack of soil. Sometimes I get pain when I fall in that hole. No raw material can be taken through this road. Vegetables, crops, fruits have to be taken in mind. It hurts us a lot. The demand to the government is to fill the soil on both sides of our bridge and make it better.
Sutrapur Union Chairman Solaiman Mintu said that the Minister is already discussing this matter. Soil filling work will be done on this road in North Hijlatli through a podge of JICA. It will be from Pankar Matha next to Hijlatli Masjid to Pankar Road of Sultan Ahmed's house. There will be no more holes in the bridge head.
Upazila officer Tazwar Akram Sakapi Ibn Sajjad said, we have come to know that we have approach roads to some bridges here. There is no road on that approach road. Due to this, vehicles cannot move through the roads. I will investigate through the LGED office and take measures to repair the road.
