Twelve thousands of people from Several villages in Sujanagar upazila are suffering as they are deprived from proper communication due to having no roads connecting the bridge over wapda cannal .Every day, the locals have to cross the bridge while risking their lives.
People in the area said that the bridge was built over the canal of WAPDA Dam in Narsinghpur village of Nazirganj union of Sujanagar upazila about 8 years by the Local Government Department (LGED). The construction cost of this bridge was tk five million .
As there is no road connecting the two sides of the bridge, 12,000 people around Nazirganj area in Sujanagar upazila have no other way to cross the bridge. Mizanur Rahman Rubelof Barkhapur village said that although the bridge was built considering the urge from the people, the people of the area are suffering due to no connecting roads to the bridge. Although both sides of the bridge were filled with soil, there is no road due to construction defects. When it rains, the roads connecting the bridge collapse. People then have to use the bridge risking their lives. Thus, the bridge is being used without connecting road for about 8 years.
Sujanagar LGED Deputy Assistant Engineer Abdul Baten said the bridge was built long ago. He was not working there at that time. However, the issue is probably being resolved under the management of local MP. In this regard, local MP Ahmed Firoz Kabir said, "I know the matter, I hope there will be a road connecting the bridge soon."
