Brick kilns in Chuadanga burning woods causing eco-disaster

Brick kiln owners are ignoring government policies Chuadanga area. Most brick kilns have been set up near the educational institutions, including densely populated residential areas, without environmental exemptions. Wood is being burned publicly in bricks. As a result, the environment and destruction of forest resources are being destroyed. Twenty -two brick kilns have been established in different places of Jibannagar upazila. As a result, the environment and the common people are under severe threats as well as health risks.

According to the information provided by the Jibannagar Upazila administration, there are 5 unions of this upazila and a total of 20 brick kilns in one municipality. Five of them are burned with coal in five brick kilns, but the wood is burned in the other 20 brick kilns. The soil of agricultural land is being used as raw material. As a result, the forest is being destroyed on the one hand. On the other hand, farming is becoming ineligible for cultivating fertility.

Brick Prepare and kiln Establishment (Control) Act 20 states that no educational institutions, residential areas, municipalities, forests, gardens and agricultural lands can be installed. However, STHB Bricks have been set up in Raipur village of Jibannagar upazila without the need for the law, the border brickwater in Jibannagar municipality, and several brick kilns including the Marsus Parents Bricks next to Jibannagar Technical School and College in Manoharpur village.

It is reported that in the middle row brick kilns are burned from 1 to 5 lakh bricks a year. And one thousand cubic feet of soil is used as raw material for every 1,000 bricks. Each brick kiln is used on the surface of five to six acres of land annually. Besides, on average, 35 to 40 mounds of wood are burned daily in each brick kiln. As a result, over 800 mounds of wood are being burnt every day in 20 brick kilns. Of the 20 bricks in Jibannagar upazila since the 21st, there is no license and the Department of Environment Department renewed.

Serejamin found that several species of fruits and forest trees are being burned in various brick kilns of the upazila including mango, jam, kathal, raintree, dates. Ahad Ali of Narayanpur village said that at the end of the municipality, the border called Brick Bhata, which was built, was cultivated around the kiln area. Farmers in the area are in extreme danger due to the kiln. Moreover, different species of trees are being burned every day in this kiln. As a result, various fruits and forest trees are being harvested in this area. If the administration does not take this issue, the environment will be severely damaged. Jibannagar Upazila Agriculture Officer Sharmin Akhter said the crop land was being damaged due to the poisonous wash of brickwork. As the brick kiln is built on the side of the field, the production of crop has decreased.

Jibannagar Upazila Executive Officer Rokonuzzaman said there is a law to set up a brick kiln. He must set up a brick killer according to the law. Action will be taken against the owners of all the bricks that disobey the law.
