Brac University (BracU) organized a seminar, based on the book “Internationalizing the University: A Spiritual Approach” on Wednesday, at university auditorium. The book is written by Dr Kalyani Unkule, associate professor and director, International Affairs and Global Initiatives, OP Jindal Global University. The seminar shed light on several aspects of her book. The impact of internationalization of higher education on the students was also discussed.

Dr Kalyani took a critical look at the internationalization of higher education in her book. The book highlights the argument for the importance of grounding education in spiritual perspectives. The author proposes a paradigm for internationalization that respects other ways of knowing. This proposal seeks to decolonize knowledge and promote intercultural understanding. This will also help the students in achieving holistic personal development while studying abroad. Internationalization of higher education also develops intercultural competence of the students.

Vice President International and Interim Head of HR of BracU Jonathan Cartmell moderated the seminar. The seminar attendees included students, faculty and staff members of BracU. Dr Kalyani addressed questions and responses of the attendees in the question and answer session.
