BRAC giving Tk3cr cash help to pandemic-hit migrant workers

The largest NGO in the world BRAC is providing emergency cash assistance of Tk3 crore to the pandemic hit migrant workers who returned home.
Some 7,250 migrant workers who have lost their jobs or returned home helpless during this crisis would get the support.
Secretary for expatriate welfare Ahmed Munirus Salehin launched it in a virtual event on Thursday, Brac said.
This cash is being disbursed through bkash mobile banking services by coordinating with the district and upazila administrations in different parts of the country.

The list is being prepared locally after verification by BRAC field level staff.

Already 1545 such needy returnees received Tk61.80lakh.

Verification and selection of the remaining 5,605 is going on.

They will get the cash soon, Brac said.

Expatriates mostly from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Libya, and Europe returned during this crisis period.

Brac said they had planned to spend Tk100 crore with the donors support in the next three years for the welfare of those returnees from psychosocial services to skills development and economic rehabilitation.
