Bangladesh Railway (BR) has started refunding the ticket fares to the passengers as train operation had been suspended for security grounds during the student quota reform movement.
Intercity trains resumed operation on Thursday after their services had remained suspended for 27 days across the country during the violence over the quota movement.
The passengers, who bought train tickets to make journey on different dates after July 18, are being given back their ticket money from Thursday, according to railway sources.
Those who bought tickets both online and from the counters can claim refund of their unused tickets. The refunding of the ticket money will continue for the next 10 days.
The Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department of Railway Western said that they have started to refund ticket money to those who could not make journey for suspension of train services.
Passengers who bought their tickets online will receive refunds through the online system, while those who purchased tickets from counters will get the ticket money from the counters, he said.
The combined financial loss the Eastern and Western Zones of Bangladesh Railway due to the suspension of train services will be more than Tk 22 crore, railway sources said. Several trains, including Sonar Bangla Express, Cox’s Bazar Express and Parabat Express, were vandalised by miscreants during the violence over the quota movement. Besides, electrical equipment and signaling systems at various railway stations were damaged.
