Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has said on Friday that there will be an agent from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) with each participating teams in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League, scheduled to start from December 11, reports Cricbuzz. According to the BCB head, the board is willing to spend extra money from their pockets to make sure the tournament is secure from corrupt activities and also sounded a warning of their zero tolerance policy if any team or person is found guilty.

BPL had earlier been halted after being hit by match-fixing issues that saw Mohammad Ashraful receiving a ban, while BCB is more concerned with the latest blow that came in the form of Shakib Al Hasan's suspension by the ICC for failing to report corruption approaches.

Even before the start of this edition of the BPL, BCB had to ban the logistics manager of Chittagong Vikings Shakeel Abedin for making corrupt approaches in the last season. Cricbuzz understands two cricketers from Vikings camp complained it to the anti-corruption unit of BCB and when their investigation found truth in the allegations, the board suspended him so that he cannot be part in the upcoming season that will be marking the 100th birth anniversary of the father of the nation.

"There will be an anti-corruption agent with each of the teams in this BPL,'' Nazmul told reporters at the BCB premises. "'It was always there but now that is more intensified [after the Shakib incident] and it is getting bigger with each passing day. ''All we have to do is bear the extra expenses because if you assign a person for each and every team, he should be given salary and also you have to provide him the food and accommodation. But we instantly agreed with this. We just want to keep everything secure. Whatever the ACU members are advising, we are doing that.

''Usually we don't recruit them, rather we appoint them. The member of the ACU generally comes from the Army. Every team will be given training on corruption issues. Those who are the sponsors of the team will do the things accordingly. We will not interfere in it. We in fact don't want to know what ACU is doing. I think they should be given the freedom to work independently,'' he concluded.
