BPDB to sign 584-MW power purchase deal today

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Unique Group today to buy 584 megawatts (MW) electricity, reports BSS. Under the deal, Unique Group will commission a power plant at Meghnaghat in Narayanganj to supply the electricity in next 36 months, Director (Public Relations) of BPDB Saiful Hasan Chowdhury told the state news agency on Tuesday.

He said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will witness the signing ceremony as the chief guest, while US Ambassador in Dhaka Earl R. Miller will be present as the special guest at Bidyut Bhaban in the city. Secretary of BPDB Saiful Azad and Managing Director of Unique Group Chowdhury Nafees Sharafat will sign the contract on behalf of their respective sides, Hasan said.

BPDB chairman Engineer Khaled Mahmood will preside over the signing ceremony, while Chief Coordinator of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the Prime Minister’s Office Abul Kalam Azad, Power Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus and Energy Secretary M Rahmatul Munim will be as special guests. According to the project details, Unique Group will implement the project and supply electricity to the national grid for 22 years.
