BPC to purchase 12 lakh mts of fuel oil

To ensure the supply of fuel oil in the country, the government has decided to buy refined fuel oil under the state-level agreement (G2G) from several organizations.

BPC (Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation) is buying 12 lakh 75 thousand metric tons of refined fuel oil and petroleum products.

The government has decided to buy various types of refined fuel oil worth Tk 10,000 crore to meet the fuel oil demand in the last half of the year (July-December).

After ensuring various formalities for purchasing these fuels, fixing premiums, supplying them on parcel schedules at the lowest prices in the international market, etc., officials of the Ministry of Energy and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) left for Bangladesh from Malaysia 

on Friday.

  According to BPC sources, a team of six members of the procurement committee negotiated with several organizations to purchase fuel from the 9 sources or organizations from which Bangladesh usually buys fuel oil. 

Among others, there are Secretary of the Energy Ministry Mohammad Saiful Islam and BPC Chairman  Md. Amin Ul Ahsan, General Manager (Operations) Moni Lal Das, Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Abdul Halim, Deputy Managers Shyam Pal and Tanjin Hossain.

About 12 lakh 75 thousand metric tons of refined fuel oil and petroleum products have been purchased in this negotiation. The members of the procurement committee went to Malaysia for the negotiation on May 17. 

The fuel oil purchased includes 8 lakh metric tons  diesel, 1 lakh 80 thousand metric tons aviation fuel or jet fuel, 1 lakh metric tons furnace oil, and about 1 lakh metric tons  gasoline and octane.
