Police rescued a child, aged about 9 years, who was abducted on last Friday from Savar, by conducting a drive at Nabagram Bengur area in Manikganj district on early Wednesday. Saiful Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar model police station confirmed the matter to The Bangladesh Post on Wednesday.
"We rescued the child by conducting a drive at Nabagram Bengur village under Sadar police station of Manikganj district, in cooperation of RAB-4 and Manikganj local police, and detained three men in connection with the incident, as well as a case has been filed with Savar model police station in this regard".
The victim was identified as Md. Estefaq (9), son of Zahidur Rahman, from Bangamari Char village under Gouripur police station of Mymensingh district, and he studying at a local Madrasa living at Karnapara area of Savar with his family. On other hand the detainees are identified as Habu Miah, 40, Badsha, 34, and Karim Byapari. All are hailing from Manikganj district.
Hamidur Rahman, Sub-inspector of Savar model police station, who lead the rescue operation, told The Bangladesh Post, “The accused abducted the child around 11:00 am on Friday from Karnapara area of Savar and later demanded Tk 1 lakh ransom from his family over phone call.
Afterwards, we started investigation into the matter after victim's family lodge a General Diary with Savar model police station, and finally rescued him on early Wednesday from Manikganj, as well as detained three men who were involved with the abduction, adding that, the accused were produced before a Dhaka court on Wednesday after filling a case with Savar model police station regarding the abduction.”
The official further said that the accused confessed their crime to police in primary interrogation and admits that they usually abduct children turning around several areas, and collect ransom from victim family, and they have been carrying out such kind of criminal activities for long".
