A teenager named Asif Ali (15) has committed suicide in Naldanga of Natore for a new smart phone. The incident took place at Diarkajipur village of the upazila on Wednesday night.

Asif Ali was the son of Imdadul Islam, a Dubai expatriate of Diarkajipur village. He was a class nine student at Bashudebpur Sheeshchandra Bidyaniketan High School.

Police and locals said that when Asif's smart mobile phone was lost, he asked his mother to buy a new smart phone for him. After talking to his father, she decided to buy a new smart phone for Asif a few days later. However, Asif could not accept this decision. So, he committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan in his bedroom on Wednesday night.

Officer-in-Charge of Naldanga Police Station Shafiqul Islam said the teenager had committed suicide out of anger on his parents as they did not buy him a new mobile phone soon after he made the demand.
