Bourses begin week in correction

Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed today witnessing price correction as the risk-averse investors took cautious position.The shaky investors’ selling spree was observed in the large-cap sectors, especially in bank, engineering, textile and financial institutions sectors.

However, the bargain hunters were active on telecom, food and pharma sectors’ stocks. The depressed market outlook kept the investors worried that resulted 12% decrease in turnover over the last session.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4498.49 points on Sunday, the first working day of the week, with a loss of 15.95 points or 0.35 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah index, DSES also went down by 9.50 points and 1.54 points to settle at 1538.62 points and 1015.05 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 122,926 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 121.62 million securities.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 352 issues traded, 100 securities gained price while 201 declined and 51 remained unchanged.

The top 10 gainers were Monno Stafllers, Peninsula Chittagong, Stylecraft, Standard Ceramics, Sinobangla Industry, MBL First Mutual Fund, Standard Insurance, People Insurance, Reckitt Benckiser and Rahim Tex.

Ring Shine topped the turnover chart followed by Beacon Pharma, Northern Insurance, Khulna Power, Paramount Insurance, City General Insurance, Progressive Life, BNICL, Shuwrid Industries and Sinobangla Industries.

The top 10 losers were Ring Shine, Meghna Petroleum, United Air, Saiham Cotton, Exim First Mutual Fund, Anlima Yarn, Kattali Textile, Metro Spinning, Evince Textile and Queen South Textile.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed at red from the winning streak of the previous day.

CSCX and CASPI decreased by 35.93 points and 58.69 points to stand at 8295.79 points and 13674.46 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 10,159,815 shares and mutual fund of 219 companies were traded, of which 57 issues advanced while 129 declined and 33 issues remained unchanged.
