Theatre troupe ‘Bottola’ celebrated its 11th founding anniversary organising a programme at Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity on Monday.

The programme commenced with hoisting of the national flag while artistes of the troupe rendered the national anthem and featured a cake cutting ceremony, cultural show, biennial conference of the troupe and theatre show.

The troupe held its biennial conference where a new committee was elected. Professor Shafi Ahmed was elected the president of the committee for a two-year term.

‘Bottola’ artiste Khapa Baul and his troupe entertained the audience presenting songs like ‘Amar Jamunar Jol’, ‘Pakhi’ and ‘Dilli te Nijam Uddin Awlia’.

Besides, the troupe staged its acclaimed play titled ‘Somoyer Proyojone’, based on a short story by late novelist and filmmaker Zahir Raihan.

The play has been adapted by Najifa Tasnim Khanam Tisha and directed by Imran Khan Munna. It revolves around a diary of a freedom fighter which falls into the hands of Zahir Raihan when he was visiting a freedom fighters’ camp as a journalist.

A guerrilla commander gave him the diary narrating personal accounts of the freedom fighter.

The play, which portrays different incidents from the diary, gives the audience a glimpse into the tumultuous days of the liberation war.

It addresses the war crimes and genocides committed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators along with the sacrifices of freedom fighters.

Bottola began its journey on August 27, 2009. During this time, the troupe has produced a number of popular productions including ‘Khona’, ‘Crutch-er Colonel’ etc.
