Farmers across the country are expecting a better Boro yield than previous years as they witness croplands filled with golden paddy during the current harvesting season. Reportedly, farmers are passing busy times in nursing the crops at the final stage.

According to the sources, farmers have cultivated Boro paddy on more lands compared to the previous season. Earlier, the government had embarked on a plan to boost the country's rice production each year gradually by bringing more lands under Boro and high yielding paddy cultivation. Reportedly, the government provided free Boro seeds to around 1.5 lakh farmers across the country.

Bangladesh has been successful in giving a boost to its agricultural growth and equipping its agricultural sector with new technologies.  Farmers now get low-cost power-run irrigation facilities. On top of that, farmers get subsidies on the bills for consumption of electricity being provided by the government to operate their pumps at reduced costs.

We need to integrate advanced

technologies in the

agriculture sector

Over the last years, we have achieved self-sufficiency in food production and the government’s scheme of rural electrification has played an important role in boosting the country's agricultural production. However, in order to make this production growth sustainable we need to integrate advanced technologies in the agriculture sector.

Though we are gradually moving towards commercialisation of our agriculture sector hitherto we do not have adequate transportation facilities for this sector. Hence, we need to provide farmers with adequate transportation facilities so that they are able to reap the full benefit of their produce. Transportation facilities will make the movement of the farmers' produce easier from farm to the market. Last but not least, all concerned including scientists, researchers and agriculture officials should put forth their concerted efforts to boost paddy yield to feed the gradually increasing population of the country.
