Although the booster dose had been advised to be taken six months after the second dose, it has now been given green light that the booster jab can be taken four months after the second dose.
This was stated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque while addressing a briefing meeting on the occasion of 26th National Worm Control Week in the conference room of the Health Department on Wednesday.
“Although there is no text message sent from the registration app for booster dose, booster dose can be taken by showing the certificate of the second dose at the center,” said the health minister.
The minister said that a nationwide Covid-19 booster dose campaign will be launched from March 17 to March 31 to mark the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This year's booster dose target has been set at 3.25cr doses.
“Earlier, 22cr doses of vaccine have been given and if this campaign is successful, it will be possible to give 25cr doses of vaccine. This will make the country more secure,” he added.
On the other hand, on the occasion of the 26th National Worm Week, the minister said, “This year, 4cr people will be given medicine against the worm. The campaign will start on March 20 and 98pc of our target will be met.”
The health minister urged everyone to pay special attention to cleanliness in order to stay clear and not get infected by worms.
It is to be noted that all the children aged 5-11 years in primary level educational institutions and the children aged 12-16 years in secondary level educational institutions will be given one dose of deworming medicine.
The meeting was chaired by the Director-General of the Directorate of Health Professor Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.
