Educationists and others said that books play a vital role in building a civilized society. Library is a bridge between education and culture of the past and the present time. They said these at the National Library Day programmes held at different places across the country on Wednesday (February 5).
Cultural Affairs Ministry chalked out elaborate programmes across the country to mark the day. Different other organisations and educational institutions also observed the day through various programmes, including rally and discussion. Our Correspondents from several districts sent new items on the issue.
In Kushtia, the day was observed at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia with various programmes. IU Central Library brought out a colourful rally on the campus marking the day, reports our IU Correspondent. IU teachers, students, officials and employees joined the rally. Later, a discussion was held on the premises of Central Library with Ataur Rahman in the chair. IU Registrar (acting) SM Abdul Latif was present at the discussion as the chief guest, while it was addressed, among others, by IU Proctor Prof Dr Poresh Chandra Barman, Dr Md Nowab Ali Khan and Md Shamdul Islam Joha.
In Chuadanga, the District Administration and Chuadanga Public Library jointly observed the day in the district, reports our Chuadanga Correspondent. A rally was brought out from Deputy Commissioner Office that was ended at Public Library. Students of educational institutes, members of scout and high officials took part at the rally.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at Public Library Hall Room on the occasion. Mohammad Yahia Khan, ADC (general) presided over the meeting. Kanai Lal, Additional Superintendent of Police and Rejaul Karim, vice principal of Chuadanga Government College attended as guests. Sadekur Rahman, UNO of Sadar Upazila, Shahanaj Faruque, Secretary of District Scout and Julfikar Ali, Junior Librarian of Chuadanga Public Library spoke at the meeting.
In Faridpur, the district administration and Moyez Uddin Public Library jointly brought out a colourful rally in the district town marking the day, reports our Faridpur Correspondent. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Atul Sarker Dey led the rally. Later, a discussion was held at Jasim Uddin Hall where prizes were distributed among the winners of book-reading competition.
Chairman of Faridpur Zila Parishad Lokman Hossian Mridha attended the event as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Aslam Molla in the chair. Principal of Govt Rajendra College Prof Mosharraf Ali and Saju Ahmed of Moyez Uddin Public Library also spoke at the discussion, among others.
In Pabna, the day was observed in Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) by holding various programmes, reports our Pabna Correspondent. Central Library of the university brought out a colourful rally on the campus. Later, a discussion was held. Vice Chancellor of PUST Prof Dr Rustom Ali attended the discussion as the chief guest.
In Kishoreganj, the day was observed at the initiative of Kishoreganj District Administration. On the occasion, a discussion and a colourful rally was held in the town, reports our Kishoreganj Correspondent. The discussion was held at conference room of Kishoreganj Govt. Public Library.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Md. Habibur Rahman presided over the meeting while Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Murshed Chowhdury attended as the chief guest.
Addtional Police Super Anirban Chowdhury, District Education Officer Md. Zulfiqure Hossain, Kishoreganj Govt. Mohila College Lecturer Shakil Sarker, Non-Government Public Library President Md. Ruhul Amin, Advocate Auyb Bin Haider and Assistant Professor Samiul Hoque Mollah spoke on the occasion.
