A book titled ‘Islame Protibondhider Odhikar o Morjada: Jatisangha Sonod and Bangladesher Prekhyapote Ekti Porjalochona (Rights and Dignity of Disabled in Islam: An Overview in Bangladesh Perspective and UN Charter)’ has been published.

Public Relations, Information and Publication office of Jagannath University (JnU) published the 680-page book which was written following Ph.D thesis paper of Dr Nazrul Islam, a teacher of the university. He obtained his Ph.D degree from Dhaka University in 2017 on this topic with scholarship from Prime Minister’s education fund.

The cover unveiling ceremony of the book was held on Saturday (February 29) at Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Bangla Academy premises.

Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman attended the cover unveiling ceremony as the chief guest. Former Vice Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University Dr M Wahiduzzaman, Prof Dr Kazi Saifuddin, Prof Dr Farida Akhter Khanom, Prof Shipra Sarker, Prof Dr Miltan Bishas and Ashok Roy Nandi were also present at the function, among others.

About the book, Dr Nazrul Islam said that although there are enough works on disabled people and autistic children, no

sufficient academic research was done on the issue. In this backdrop, the book can be a new addition in this regard.

He also said that Islam protects rights and dignity of disabled persons and speaks on the issue like other sectors of the human life, as the Islam is a complete code of life. “I try to cover the Islam’s directions on the disabled and autistic children in the book properly,” he said.
