Book market fire originated from spark: Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that the fire started in the book market atNilkhet from the spark of weldingaimed at the upward expansion of the shop.

He made the revelation while talking to the media on Thursday morning after inspecting the fire-hit book market atNilkhet of the capital.

Barrister Taposh said, "We have noticed that although it is a book market, some restaurants have also been set up there. The book sellers store books upstairs above the restaurant after making shed with the help of welding machine. Initially, it appeared to us that a spark had caused the fire. The fire service also reported in this regard.”

While responding to questions about whether action would be taken against those responsible for the blaze, he said that an investigation report will be prepared by the Disaster Management Committee of the City Corporation. Action would be taken only after thorough investigation and identifying the specific reasons.

The DSCC mayor said, "There is a market here and much more. With another larger plan for the whole area, we will consider in the long term whether they can be arranged in a planned manner. Now we are paying more attention to the accident that happened. For now, I will give priority to how we can stand by the side of small traders and help them.”

Chief Engineer Saleh Ahmed, Chief Property Officer Russell Sabrin, Regional Executive Officer for Zone-1 Marina Nazneen and others were present at that time.
