Bonsai exhibition in city

An artistic exhibition of Bonsai, small trees that mimic the shape and scale of full size trees has started at WVA auditorium in capital’s Dhanmondi. A collection of 300 selected bonsai trees have been kept on display at the exhibition. A number of species of bonsai trees such as cherry, peepul tree, tamarind, kanakchapa, Kamini, Arjun, Chinese Bot etc. have found their place into the exhibition. Many tree lovers throng to the exhibition to view and buy the dwarfed trees.

The price of the trees varies from Tk 1000 to Tk 180,000. The exhibition, which runs everyday from 10am to 8pm, will close on September 15. Md Saiful Alam, president of National Press Club on Thursday inaugurated this 11th Annual Bonsai Exhibition 2019 organised by Radiant Bonsai Society in collaboration with Ifad Group.

At the inauguration ceremony, Gulshan Nasrin Chowdhury, the president of Radiant Bonsai Society said, “Many of our young generation who live in Dhaka city, have hardly know about the different species of trees. This exhibition is very important for them. Bonsai is very precious asset; the price of Bonsai has been fixed based on its style, system and age.”

Bonsai is a Japanese word meaning planted in a container. The origin of the art can be traced back thousand years. Bonsai is the art of making miniature of life-size trees.
