Bangladesh wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim rated the wicket of the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura as the best in the country after completing his first training session at the venue on Tuesday, report agencies.
Mushfiq, who was one of the first cricketers to begin training outdoors, recently decided to shift his practice venue from Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital to his hometown in Bogura.
Mushfiq made the decision to spend some time with his parents and other family members who live in Bogura, as he couldn’t visit them since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the country, not even during two Eids, said his elder brother Mozahidur Rahim.
Mushfiq, however, did not compromise with his training schedule for the visit, as he sorted out his training arrangements in Bogura through the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
But doubts about the state of the venue remained as the stadium no longer hosted domestic competitions on a regular basis and last hosted an international match way back in December, 2006.
But Mushfiq surprisingly loved his first day of training at the venue, posting a small video of him batting at the central wicket in social media and sang high praises of the surface.
‘Probably the best turf wicket in our country, had a great time, Alhamdulillah,’ the caption in Mushfiq’s video read.
