Many farmers in Bogura are passing busy time at their fields growing early summer vegetables. Many farmers were seen taking care of their field for getting a good yield. Farmers in this region grow several summer vegetables and leaf vegetables.
Farmers of Bogura are passing busy time cultivating pointed gourd, okra, spiny gourd, flat green beans, eggplant, radish, several varities of bottle gourd and other vegetables. The area of vegetable farming has been increasing as the farmers are getting good yield and profit from vegetable cultivation.
It was known that more than 4,00,000 tonnes of vegetable are grown in Bogura every year. The farming of summer vegetables has increased along with the farming of winter vegetables. Farmers grow vegetables in Bogura Sadar, Shibganj, Gabtoli, Shahjahanpur and other upazilas of the district. The farmers of the district grow vegetable throughout the year. The farmers are now busy farming many types of summer vegetables in different upazilas of Bogura. The farmers take care of their vegetable fields and harvest the vegetables in Bogura. The demand of the vegetables of Bogura is rising as the quality of the vegetables of this region is good. So, every year the area of vegetable farming is expanding. The farmers also show their interest in vegetable farming as they get fair price for their vegetables.
After visiting several areas, it was seen that farmers were busy growing vegetables at their fields. Although the yield is bit less this year due to weather, the farmers are taking care of their crops at the fields. The farmers said the production cost will be less if they get fertilizer, pesticides and good seeds from the government.
Saidul Islam, Golam Mostofa and Mosharaf Hossain, farmers of Shakharia and Shekherkola areas of Sadar, said they grow vegetables throughout the year. The crop was bit damaged due to excessive rain and drought. So, the production would be bit less.
Arum farmer Abdur Razzak said the yield was good last year. The leaves of the plants were damaged due to drought. Although the yield would be less, the farmers will make profit. If the fertilizer, seed and labour cost would come down, they would be benefitted.
Department of Agricultural Extention sources said the target of summer vegetable cultivation is 10,000 hectares of land and the production target is about 2,00,000 tonnes for this seasn. Summer vegetables are grown from March 15 to October 15. Farmers are passing busy time in fields and the sale of several vegetables is on in full swing in the markets of Bogura.
Bogura Department of Agricultural Extention (DAE), Md Nazmul Haque Mondol, said Bogura is well-known as granary of vegetables. It is one of the largest vegetable farming districts in the country. The agriculture officers are advising the farmers across the district. The Agricultural Department is beside the farmers providing modern technological assistance.
