Hanging body of an Awami league leader was recovered from a tree beside Merung Road under Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari.
The deceased was identified as Md Shakil Hossain, 52, president of ward no 9 Merung union unit AL.
Officer-in-Charge of Dighinala Police station Uttam Kumar Dev said local people found the hanging body of the AL leader from a mango tree around 10pm and informed police.
On information, a team of the law enforcers went to the scene and recovered the body.
The body was kept at the Police Station, the OC said.
A local source said, Shakil had an altercation with a group in the village over a piece of land.
