Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said a committee has been formed, led by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon, to identify and remove illegal vehicles from the city streets, reports BSS.

“Entry of illegal vehicles into the city from outside of the capital has been prohibited. Besides, movement of the small vehicles which run on the city streets illegally will also be prohibited within the next two months,” he told journalists after a board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at the Nagar Bhaban here.

The meeting also decided to launch automated traffic control system, he said, adding that Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has already been given directives in this regard.

“Footpaths are for pedestrians. Hawkers will be removed from the footpaths to give the footpaths back to the city dwellers,” the minister said.

He called upon all to play effective role in removing the traffic jam from the city.

DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam and Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr Selina
