Boat race in Bangabandhu’s honour concludes in Roumari

In Kurigram's Roumari upazila, the final game of the traditional boating competition was held in honor of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

On Wednesday, the final game of this village-Bangla traditional boating competition was held on the Brahmaputra river organized by the brave freedom fighter Alhaj Abdul Quader Sarkar and businessmen in Baguar Char area adjacent to Baldmara boat ghat of Bandber union of the upazila. The game was presided over by the martyred freedom fighter Alhaj Abdul Quader Sarkar. Upazila Parishad Chairman Mahmuda Aktar Smriti (Var), Vir Muktijoddha Badiuzzaman, Upazila Awami League General Secretary Rezaul Islam Minu, Organizing Committee General Secretary Abul Hashem, RSDA Former Executive Director Iman Ali Imon, Union Jubo League President Samchuddoha and Abu Bakkar were present in the event. Master etc. 

The program was conducted by former general secretary of Union Awami League and executive director of CSDC, Abu Hanif Master, UP member Shafiqul Islam, owner of brick kiln and budding social worker Chaiful Islam and many others gave full support. Thousands of children, women and men along with various professionals attend the river bank all day to watch the boating competition. People are crowded on both sides of the river. Visitors enjoy boating competition from the middle of the river with shallow boards and small boats. 

The eager crowd cheered and cheered. Since all kinds of sports and cultural events have been closed for a long time due to Corona, the boatmen are also very happy to be able to participate in boating and bring joy to the people of the area. The audience was mesmerized by their dancing and singing. To watch this boat race, visitors from different areas including neighboring upazilas in vans, rickshaws, autovans and motorcycles started coming to Baldmara boat ghat from early morning. 

Spectators stood on the banks of the river for about 3 km. But because there is no garage, the motorcycles are lined up at different places. On the first day, around 20 boats including Ektatari, Mama Bhagane, Mae Doa, Sonabhari Daser Tari from different areas of the district participated in the race. Sainik 1st, Durant Chita 2nd, Sonar Bangla 3rd and Ashar Alo 4th in the final game.
