Chalanbil area has becoming full of water due to heavy rainfall this year. As the canals have been flooded for several days in a row and now the fields are being flooded, the people of Chalanbeel area are preparing small boats suitable for navigation in the rainy season.
In Tarash upazila the roads of multiple villages are seen being submerged under water. Small boats are now highly valued for the movement of people in Bilpar area along with other villages. So there are many traders and mechanics engaged in making small boats. Now they are spending busy time making boats and repairing old ones.
Small boat selling markets have formed in different areas of Chalanbil. There is a lot of boat building activities going on in Tarash, Chanchkair Hat, Mirzapur Hat, Binsara Hat, Naogaon Hat and Chaikola Hat and Chatmohar area.
Boat buyers said that as the demand for boats increased, each boat was sold at Tk 2,500 to Tk 3,500.
It can be seen at Naoga Haat in Tarash Upazila that boat making work is going on in about 20-25 factories side by side. People from other upazilas have also come to buy boats.
Lipon Sarkar of Karatkandi village in Bhangura upazila said roads in low-lying areas are submerged already due to heavy rainfall. These small boats are needed to go from one village to another or to another neighborhood. These boats are especially needed by fishermen for fishing.
Alep Ali, a businessman from Tarash municipality, said they do not have much work during the rainy season. So, these boats are bought to make extra income by buying boats and fishing.
Shah Alam, a carpenter, said that the price of boats has gone up due to the increase in the wages of carpenters and the price of wood. The wage earner gets Tk500 per person for each boat. They can make 2 boats a day.
