The supporters of former Awami League MP and independent candidate Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun have been attacked by the supporters of Boat symbol candidate Mosharef Hossain in Laxmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) constituency. Over seven people were injured and six motorcycles were vandalized, including that of General Secretary of Upazila Jubo League Ahsan Ullah Hiron.
Prof Abdul Wahed, chief coordinator of the Boat symbol candidate and general secretary of Ramgati Upazila Awami League, claimed that it was not involved in the attack, but a clash ensued between supporters of the two parties.
According to the police and party sources, people of Boat candidate are asking Sumon Hossain, a supporter of Eagle, to work for the Boat. At night, sitting at a tea shop in Saheberhat area, Sumon and others were talking about Eagle symbol. Suddenly, supporters of Boat, Zilla Parishad member Ghiyas Uddin Molla and others went to the shop and beat up Suman. As a result of this, Eagle's supporters Upazila Jubo League General Secretary Ahsan Ulyah Hiron and others went to the spot. Later, after coming from there, the supporters of the Boat attacked them when they reached the Noahat open area.
As a result of this, around 12:30 at the night, the two sides chased each other and clashed. Kamalnagar Upazila Jubo League General Secretary and Charlorens UP former chairman Ahsan Ullah Hiron, Jubo League workers Maksudur Rahman Babu, Sumon Hossain and Mahfuzur Rahman were injured. The injured have been admitted to Kamalnagar Upazila Health Complex.
Six motorcycles were vandalized. The incident took place in the open area of Noakhat yesterday at around 12:30 pm.
Later, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Independent candidate Abdullah Al Mamun said, supporters of the Boat symbol candidate attacked his supporter Zilla Parishad member Ghiyas Uddin Molla , who did not go to the Boat procession. Several others were injured in the clash.
However, Chief Coordinator of Boat and General Secretary of Ramgati Upazila Awami League Prof Abdul Waheed said that after entering the election office of Boat in Saheberhat area, Eagle supporters beat up a worker.
Due to this, there was a clash between the two parties. Some supporters of the Boat were injured. But the attack is not correct.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamalnagar Police Station. Tauhidul Islam confirmed the incident and said that he has not received any complaint in this incident yet.
The situation is under police control. The matter is being investigated.
