At least 6 people, including UP members, were injured in a clash between the supporters of Boat and EAGLE in Jamalpur-5 Sadar Constituency. The incident took place in Sadar's Shahbazpur Dakshin Kaidola village on Wednesday afternoon.
Among the injured, local ward Awami League president and UP member Niamat Ali, Niamat Ali's son Zakir Hossain Fakir, Belal Hossain's son Masud Rana and Maruf Hossain have been admitted to the 250-bed Jamalpur General Hospital. Boat's poll camp was vandalized during the clash.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mehnaz Ferdous and Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Md Sohrab Hossain visited the spot after receiving information. Sadar Upazila Awami League general secretary Hafizur Rahman Swapan has blamed supporters of independent candidate Rezaul Karim Reznu for this incident.
Independent candidate district Awami League member Rezaul Karim Reznu said that since the beginning of the election campaign, supporters of the Boat have been intimidating and threatening the supporters of the Eagle symbol. Already, supporters of the Boat have attacked, vandalized, set fire to and looted some poll camps of Eagle symbol. There is a plan to frame the Eagles supporters by making this incident. Sadar Upazila UNO Mehnaz Ferdous said that there was a fight between the supporters of Boat and Eagle. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
