The renovation project of Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) has been extended to June. However, the Sports Ministry is positive about holding the SAFF Women’s Under-20 tournaments at the Home of Football in February.
Earlier the target of completing the renovation works and also to start matches by December, including of setting the floodlights before the SAFF U-20 women's tournament and the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) was also expecting to hold their matches at the BNS by this time.
BNS is getting a new look day by day, when the seating arrangement with installing chairs and most of the part of the galleries have also been covered with shades.
Although the renovation project was scheduled to finish by December but was extended to June next year with the earlier budget.
The only major works, the installation of floodlights have not been completed when the previous flood lights have already been removed. The installation of new lights may start by mid-December. The ministry is expecting to complete the work before the Women's SAFF Under-20 tournament starting on February 11, and the Football Federation is also waiting for that.
BFF executive member Iqbal Hossain said, “Since the venue of the Under-20 SAFF Championship was declared, we expecting all the necessary works including the floodlights would finish before the game. In accordance with the progression of the works and after talking to the relevant parties, by December, apart from the floodlights, rest of the works may be completed.
Rezaul Maksud Zahedi also said, “The reporters that the project authority National Sports Council alonsg with the BFF are working together. We have visited and suggested to expedite the work.”
