Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, 'BNP's intentions are not good. They want to spread their anarchy and terror at the village level by marching to different villages. But the people of Bangladesh will not allow this to happen and the Awami League will be on alert.'
He said this in response to questions from reporters after attending Bajus Fair organized by Bangladesh Jewelers Association at Bashundhara International Convention City in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
Hasan Mahmud said, 'Earlier BNP has marched in different cities. Now they said they will march in union-union. As they marched through the city, they created chaos in various places. Their intentions are not good.'
He said, 'BNP wants to spread their anarchic terror at the village level by marching in various unions, i.e. in villages. People of Bangladesh will not let this happen. Our team will be on alert. If they try to create chaos in the villages, the people will resist them.'
In response to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's statement demanding the release of BNP leader Khaleda Zia, Joint General Secretary of Awami League Hasan said, 'Begum Khaleda Zia is a convict who has been punished for corruption. She was supposed to be in jail by now. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina graciously allowed the accused to stay at home, taking into consideration her age and various problems under her administrative authority. BNP Secretary General should have thanked the Prime Minister for this.'
Earlier, the information and broadcasting minister said in the chief guest speech at the 'Jewellery Ideas of Celebrities' seminar that our export basket has become almost entirely dependent on the garment industry. About 85 percent of exports are ready-made garments. Trade requires versatility. Information and communication technology has been added to it. Jewelery industry can be involved in exports in a big way.
Dr. Hasan said, 'We have good craftsmen in our country. If we prepare from now, we will be able to export billions of dollars worth of jewelry in the future.'
